A Smashin' Gathering and a Movie
Last Saturday was the AMBP Smashin’ Gathering and it was what as I expected, Smashin’!
Actually it was my first time attending any bloggers gathering, so to me, it was good la. I know it’s nothing compared to Nuffnang’s Pajama Party which I know that was good and too bad I missed that. Bummer.
Anyway, back to AMBP’s gathering…
The location: Outpost Cafe, Cineleisure Damansara @ 11:30am, 14th June 2008.

My Scifi Fan Outpost Cafe.
I got there at around 11:30am. Yeah…I was on the dot but there were not many attendees yet. I do expect the gathering to be well attended by fellow bloggers.
Anyway, it was not a disappointment. Many bloggers did turned up. And I can say it was a fun and informative gathering.
Some prominent bloggers were also invited to give their speech on their blogging experiences and how blogs help them to voice out.
They were:

Kimberly Low from Kimberlycun.com
Mr Peter Tan from Digital Awakening

Mr Aizuddin Danian from Project Petaling Street. We bloggers love his site don’t we?
Kimberly talks about how blogs help her to voice out her opinion. As she put it, she was an angry girl back then and she needed the attention or someone to listen to her ramblings. After many on and off blog sites, she finally settled with Kimberlycun.com, which is currently one of the popular blogs in Malaysian bloggersphere.
Peter Tan, through Digital Awakening, gives a wake up call to those who don’t know or unaware of the discrimination towards disabled people not only in Malaysia, but the world too.
According to him, most airlines, or almost all airlines in the world don’t have the proper facilities to aid disabled people into boarding their aircrafts. They also have to fill in and sign a “release” form if anything should happen to the disabled passenger during the flights, and that they (the airlines) cannot be sued or taken to court for legal action.
That is very sad indeed. They paid the same price for their flights, and yet treated differently.
And Mr Aizuddin Danian from PPS.org, well, we bloggers know and love his site. If it’s not for his site, we don’t get traffic on our sites. Right? So a huge thank you to Mr Aizuddin and PPS.org for making us “famous”….kinda. And happy 5th anniversary too.
Oooh, one more thing. Mr Aizuddin also said that there’s a new function in PPS which is the search function. It is indeed easy to use and easier to look for a specific blog posts / pings. One example as showed last Saturday was to look for the word “sex”. Heh, the search result was ALOT!
Whatever it is, the search function is great. As revealed last Saturday, Aizuddin also said that he is too lazy to do any upgrades to PPS.org. I’d say, what for? It already does what it supposed to do. So save your time and energy ler, keep it simple as it is.
Then there was a talk by Mr Chin Vin Sen from CinemaOnline regarding their services to us through the Internet. Thanks to CinemaOnline, we get to know what movies are playing and what are the new movies coming up. They also have reviews, so we can read about it before watching it so we don’t waste our money on movies with bad reviews. Big thanks to CinemaOnline for this.
And finally, Microsoft don’t want to be left out too. I won’t know about PopFly if it’s not for them that day. Thanks for Mr Rohan Thomas for showing us how it works. I find it really cool. I know about Silverlight technology, but haven’t really seen it work until last Saturday. I also understand that Silverlight also powers the Microsoft Surface OS that we see in the movie The Island, where the OS appear on the table instead of a monitor.
Back to the event. Lunch was provided after that. We also have a movie to watch at 3pm. The movie was Hulk, which was quite okay for me. I gave it a 3 star out of 5.

Some photos from the event:
Some of the crowds who were there during the event.

Uncle Josh trying out the work categories, provided by Star Jobs.
MyScifiFan Outpost cafe is kinda interesting. I guess they are movie buffs who’s into movies and the collectors items. Look at the pictures and you’ll know what I mean.

Cute Star Wars potato heads…

…and more potato heads…

Jar-Jar Binks.
That would be all from me.
BIG thanks to AMBP for giving me something to do on a Saturday afternoon and for the great gathering. Please organize more of this kind of event then.
This also goes out to fellow bloggers I got to know during the event too. Nice meeting you all. Leave me a comment yah. And hope to trade links with you all too.
Cheers!
